Streaming Devices

March 5, 2018

The way we watch shows, sports, news, movies, and other forms of media is changing thanks to streaming. Streaming is the transmission of audio and video over the internet. Streaming can be done on a large range of devices: TVs, smartphones, tablets, laptops, desktops, etc. Technology is constantly changing and streaming has now become a far cheaper, higher quality, and more versatile option than traditional cable.

PTCI always wants to keep our customers informed and up to date on the best technology available. There are many ways to stream, but sometimes it can be difficult to decide what the best option is for you. We’ve compiled a list of the top four streaming devices that are affordable, easy to use, and offer a great line-up of content.

1. Amazon Fire TV Stick

The Amazon Fire TV Stick is streaming device that you can purchase on Amazon. The Fire Stick simply plugs into your TV and then offers you access to a large variety of content. This includes Netflix, Youtube, Prime Video, Hulu, HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ, ESPN, FOX, AMC, and much more. Set up is simple as you plug the Fire Stick into your TV, plug the power adapter into the wall, and connect to your WiFi.

2. Roku

The Roku Express offers you access to over 500,000 movies and TV episodes. You plug your Roku’s power adapter into the wall, connect it to your TV with an HDMI cable, and connect to your WiFi. The Roku will walk you through an easy step-by-step setup process after that. With Roku you can stream Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, PBS Kids, live sports, news, and music.

3. Chromecast

Google’s Chromecast gives you access to more than 200,000 TV shows and movies. It also gives you access to over 30 million songs. To set up Chromecast you plug the device into your TV through an HDMI port, connect to your WiFi network, and then use the Cast button in a Cast-enabled app. You use your smartphone or your computer as your remote for this device.

4. Apple TV

Apple TV gives you access to apps like iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, and more. It also allows you to play games found on the App Store. To set up you plug in the Apple TV’s wall adapter, connect the device to your TV through an HDMI cable, and then follow the step-by-step instructions onscreen.

PTCI’s cutting-edge fiber optic infrastructure provides excellent internet speeds to our customers ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gigabit. These speeds are perfect for streaming; making cutting the cord a lot easier for our customers and helping you save money.
