No matter if you use a smartphone, laptop, desktop computer, or tablet, it’s always important to keep your devices up to date. Device updates are typically found in the settings menu across all platforms.

Software updates keep your device secure and functioning properly. Neglecting updates can result in your device being more prone to cyber-attacks and malware, which can put your personal information at risk.

Software companies usually include support and updates for devices for a number of years, but eventually will stop supporting older devices and software. If you’re interested in a cheaper alternative, Chromebooks are a good choice as well. Chromebooks are laptops that run Chrome OS instead of Windows. They mostly function based on Google oriented applications. These applications are a bit more limited than Windows, but work well for typical internet browsing and usually feature above-average battery life.

To check if your Windows computer is up to date, you can go down to the start menu at the bottom left-hand corner of your screen, type in update, and then click check for updates. To check if your iPhone is up to date, go to settings, general, and then software update. If you prefer Android, you can go to settings and then scroll down to “software update.”
