AI stands for artificial intelligence. You’ve probably heard quite a bit about AI recently. Particularly programs like ChatGPT, DALL-E, and Midjourney. AI has come a long way recently with many companies offering beta access to programs.
So what’s the big deal and what do these programs do? Right now, AI is gaining a lot of attention for its generative capabilities. ChatGPT is a text generator, DALL-E and Midjourney are both image generators, and there are also video generators like Synthesia and Runway. You give these generators a prompt and it will produce what you ask for. For example, if you ask ChatGPT to write a blog post for you, it will use the internet to reference different articles and information about the subject matter and then generate a blog post based on the information that it found. It can also write resumes, marketing strategies, scripts, and code by doing the same thing. In addition, it is smart enough to continue a prompt by referencing the last prompt as well. For the image generator AI’s, if you put in that you want an image of a samurai penguin riding a horse, it will reference images of samurai, penguins, and horses to create a new image depicting your prompt.
Now one thing to consider is that while this technology is very impressive and advanced, it is not perfect. Text generations are only as good as the information gathered by them. Sometimes AI programs will give you incorrect or incomplete information. And there are also new programs in place that help teachers and professors identify AI written essays that students may try to turn in. So while AI can be a very helpful tool in a variety of ways, often giving you useful and correct information, just know that it’s not perfect and you should always double check the information generated.
Many businesses are beginning to incorporate AI in their workflow processes and, as the technology improves, we’ll see AI be able to achieve even more impressive feats. So don’t think that AI is just hype or a buzzword, this technology looks like it’s here to stay and it will be changing how many people, and companies, do many things, especially in the creative space.
