Smartphone Troubleshooting
Smartphones make our lives easier and more effective, but occasionally, troubles create stressful situations. Thankfully, many common smartphone issues have relatively easy fixes.
Dropped calls
If you drop a call, try these steps:
- Check signal strength. Cell signal can be affected by a topographical obstruction, like hills, mountains, canyons, etc. Check your phone case; some protective cases interfere with reception.
- Make sure the touch screen isn’t waking up during the call, allowing your cheek to press the End Call button accidentally.
- Update the device software to the latest version.
- Check phone settings. Go to:
- Settings > Cellular > Network Selection > Choose Automatic
Call failure
If you experience call failure, check this setting first.
- Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data > toggle on VoLTE
- Update the device software to the latest version.
Other device-related issues
Updating your phone’s software (iOS for Apple and Android for Samsung) contains bug fixes and should be done regularly. Check your phone’s settings first, and install the software if an available update is displayed. Software updates fix many smartphone issues.
