PTCI’s first annual Gigaverse eSports Tournament was held October 15, 2022 at the Texas County Activity Center and featured Halo Infinite and Rocket League. Teams traveled from as far away as Dallas, TX to compete against local community teams and local public school teams.
Taking first place in the Halo Infinite portion of the tournament were the Laverne Tigers with a 92-75 win against Dexterity in the finals. Dexterity wasn’t an easy opponent, winning by at least 38 points against every other opponent they faced, but the Laverne Tigers brought incredible precision and map control to secure their victory.
The Rocket League portion of the tournament was won by an OKC-based team named Aim Lower, which went up against Picking Power in the finals. Aim Lower secured their 8-0 win by playing quickly and aggressively — a tactic Picking Power had previously used against Canute High School. Aim Lower’s offensive domination earned them a comfortable victory.
Tournament MVP was Tyson Thompson of Aim Lower. Tyson won a GTX 3090 graphics card sponsored by TCIT out of Beaver, OK. Tyson’s ability to sneak the ball into the goal and quickly out-maneuver opponents, as well as his excellent sportsmanship, earned him the MVP title.
PTCI will be holding the Gigaverse eSports Tournament again next year, and we look forward to hosting both returning teams and new challengers.
