PTCI virus warning
Due to the mass problems with circulating viruses and worms causing computer and internet difficulties, we are sending out this email to help control the spread of these malicious programs. What you need to do is scan your computer for viruses and worms, download and patch your computer, download and install your Critical updates from Microsoft.
Instructions follow:
Step 1
a. Download McAfee AVERT Stinger Here: http://www.ptsi.net/stinger.exe Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. More information on Stinger can be found here: http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
b. After clicking the above link you will receive a prompt to either save or open the file in which you will need to click on “Open” or “Run from Current Location” depending on the version of your browser.
c. The program Stinger should open on your screen. In the top left corner of the window, click on the button that reads “Scan Now”. Stinger will begin scanning your computer for viruses or worms that may be infecting your computer. As it scans it will automatically fix any problems that it finds and remove any infected files that it finds on your PC.
Step 2
Download and install Windows Updates here: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.comYou MUST do your Windows Updates. If you don't your computer will become infected again.
a. After accessing the above site a page should come up with the option “Scan Now”. Click the option and allow it to scan for the updates needed for your computer.
b. After completing the scan an option will appear. The option will now be “Review and Install”. Select this option and wait for the next screen to appear.
c. The next screen will have an option button labeled “Install Now” in which you will need to select. This will finish the installation of the recent updates. After the completion of the update you will be asked to restart. Allow the computer to restart and the process should be complete.
d. After the computer restarts go back to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and click "Scan Now". Make sure that you don't have any Critical updates to install. Keep installing and rebooting until there are zero critical updates left to install.
Note:Some of the viruses and worms have been know to block the windows update site. If you can't download the Critical updates from Windows update follow these instructions:
a. Downloading fixes directly from Microsoft .
If you have Windows 2000 go to this page and follow the instructions: Windows 2000 Patch.

b. After downloading one of the patches above and rebooting you need to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and apply your Critical updates.
